Week 3

3.1:

For each of the following organisations: School, Polytechnic, University, Private organisation. Briefly describe the implications on the adoption of technology related to digital learning and its impact on an organisation (At least two references)

Answer:-

School:

A new zealand school, Orewa College has made it compulsary for their year 9 student to have a one-to-one computing device, they recommended the ipad for students. The media got ahold of the story and blew it out of proportion, claiming that every student would need to buy a $800 – $1200 device, when a simple netbook can cost as little as $400. This is an issue that can hold back technology in schools, especially the public ones, it is the cost of the technology required for students. It’s still early days though, it used to be a luxurie just to own a book, or to write on paper.

Newsletter posted by the school about the requirement for students to have a personal computer

Polytechnic:

This year in Digital Learning Technology class at EIT we have been using adobe connect to help with the learning of students who arent physically there by allowing them to video conference into the class room during lessons. This has allowed EIT to enrol a student into a course as a student who otherwise would only have the options to either move or to do it all through the mail as correspondents

University:

Power Point Has allowed universities to pre-plan presentations for their students in a way that doesn’t force them to spend all of their time reciting or writing on a blackboard, allowing them to present and assist in the understanding of their content, not simply reciting it to the class and expecting them to note everything down.

Private organisation:

American hospitals that are privately owned use X-ray machines as a form of digital technology to help discover what is wrong with their patient . This did have a huge impact on the organisations with making it easier to discover injures and also increased the running cost of the Hospital via electrical charges and maintenance.

3.2:

Select an organisation: School, Polytechnic, University, Private organisation. List three digital learning technologies, and describe their role in the organisation.(At least two references)

Answer:-

Polytechnic:

a. Adobe Connect (as above)

b.Power Point (as above under universities)

c. Moodle – Allows teachers to post course-related material on-line for student to go over, which lets students go through material at their own pace before class and bring questions into class of parts that weren’t fully understood.
